Referrals may come in from teachers, parents and others who are in contact with a student whom they feel is at-risk for negative behaviors and/or academic failure. A common referral form will be available throughout the district and once received, the team will discuss the referral and take action to help the situation.
After an initial assessment of the student’s academics, behavioral, and/or coping skills, the Student Support Team recommends strategies to be implemented to help the student achieve success in the regular classroom. The team determines what support is needed for the student to maintain a level of success in the class-room. If a positive change occurs, the strategies are continued. If there is no progress, the student may be referred on to a formal Multidisciplinary level where one of the School Psychologists will conduct a full evaluation. The team will have regular weekly meetings to discuss cases.
